the body never lies

The nervous system is one of the oldest systems in our evolutionary development. Our bodies are designed to move away from danger and towards safety. In the wild, if a white-tailed deer is chased by a mountain lion, the deer automatically runs for its life. Adrenaline and cortisone get dumped in the body to mobilize it for efficient escape. If it gets away, the first thing the deer will do is find a safe place to allow the natural discharge of all the stress chemicals. This can look like full body shaking or quivering, which allows the body's nervous system to reset back to baseline.
The same is true for us.
Our bodies are intelligently designed. For us, discharge can also look like shaking or quivering, like in the deer, or it could also look like a spontaneous deep breath, crying, laughing, belly gurgling, tingling, etc. Sometimes, though, we are too smart for our own good. Our (cognitive) minds get in the way of what our bodies are designed to do when it comes to releasing stress and trauma. If the natural discharge process is interrupted, or not allowed to happen, then our nervous systems can remain stuck in an activated state (ie: fight, flight or freeze).
Over time, this can cause a myriad of physical, emotional and/or mental issues.
The good news is, it's possible to reset our nervous systems.
Back to baseline.
Back to a place of settle; a place of calm and relaxed readiness.
A place where you feel at home in your own skin again.
When was the last time you felt most like yourself?
